Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an online platform that hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Removing gender stereotypes is the primary focus of her work. But, she also is keen to draw attention to problems like discrimination and harassment of women who are online. Sarkeesian who has a Master's in Political and Social Thinking in the field of social and political thought from York University, is also an extremely sought-after public speaker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She has been interested in female issues as well as feminism from an early age. In 2009, when she was a student at university, Sarkeesian launched the website Feminist Frequency. She was launching a series of videos on the web that looked at game's gender-based representations at the time she came under the sway of harassment online.
